Announcing the Inaugural Marquee Series
The Miami Jewish Film Festival, the world's largest festival of its kind, is thrilled to announce its inaugural Marquee Series created to whet Festivalgoers' appetites for next year's 26th edition running January 12-26, 2023. Taking place over four days (October 26-30), the Marquee Series will premiere highly-touted films from Cannes, Berlin, and Jerusalem; Oscar hopefuls; and international box office sensations from around the world.
The inaugural program will open with James Gray's acclaimed drama Armageddon Time which premiered at this year's Cannes Film Festival and stars Academy Award-winners Anthony Hopkins and Anne Hathaway. The most personal film yet from James Gray (The Immigrant, The Lost City of Z) is also one of his greatest, an exquisitely detailed and deeply personal coming-of-age story about the strength of a Jewish family and the generational pursuit of the American Dream.
Other notable films featured in the program include the hotly anticipated documentary Four Winters: A Story of Jewish Partisan Resistance in WWII with director Julia Mintz in attendance, the beloved comedy Greener Pastures which received 12 Israeli Academy Award nominations, the French drama Rose starring legendary actress Françoise Fabian (Belle de Jour), the powerful Academy Award-entry Persian Lessons directed by Vadim Perelman (The House of Sand and Fog), the Judd Hirsch & Carol Kane starring audience award-winner iMordecai with director Marvin Samel in attendance, and a special centenary presentation of Nosferatu with a live performance by Israeli musician Ellyott.
All screenings will take place in-theater across Greater Miami at venues including the AMC Aventura, the Cosford Cinema, the Michael-Ann Russell JCC, the Miami Beach JCC, and the O Cinema South Beach. This year’s Marquee Series lineup is a reminder of the vitality and urgency of cinema as a path forward, a way for audiences to come together and celebrate the beauty and diversity of human experience.
Ranging from illuminating portraits and affecting personal stories to delightful comedies and live performances, the inaugural edition of our Marquee Series is a curated mix of premieres, films by acclaimed auteurs, must-see documentaries, as well as a one-of-a-kind evening of film and music. Our aim is to engage, enlighten, entertain, and reinvigorate our audience’s excitement of discovering the magic of movies back in theaters again.
