Turbulence
World Premiere
In Turbulence, acclaimed filmmaker Anne Aghion takes us on a breathtaking journey across continents, decades, and through the quiet yet profound spaces of memory and loss. This deeply personal film-memoir captures Aghion’s struggle with the lingering effects of losing her mother at just ten years old, and the haunting legacy of her father’s survival during the Holocaust. For years, she evaded the memories of her mother, channeling her pain into a passionate career dedicated to exploring resilience and human survival amid some of the world’s most extreme circumstances.
A soul-baring scrapbook of a film bringing together home movies, clips from her films, new footage from places as far-reaching as India, France, and New York, and poignant animated art, Aghion shares an intimate, letter-like account to the mother she barely remembers. This cinematic odyssey is more than a memoir; it’s a universal exploration of how we process grief, carry generational trauma, and ultimately make peace with the empty spaces left behind by those we love.
Crafted over twelve years, Turbulence beautifully navigates the turbulence of sorrow, weaving Aghion’s story into a larger reflection on how personal and collective losses shape our place in the world. It is a powerful and redemptive reminder of the human capacity to transform absence into a space filled with understanding, acceptance, and love.
This special premiere event will include the attendance of director Anne Aghion, producer Cynthia Kane, composer Justin Messina, and artistic participant Wilfrid Rouff, who will introduce the film and participate in a Q&A after the screening.
