Soul of a Nation
World Premiere
The first great documentary of 2025, Soul of a Nation is an inspiring and eye-opening film that delves into Israel’s most perilous chapter in recent history, a time of profound internal conflict and external danger. Faced with deep divides, political unrest, and tremendous threats, the nation found itself shaken and on the brink of collapse. But amid this crisis, triggered by the horrific October 7 attack—the deadliest massacre of Jews since the Holocaust—a profound and inspiring transformation took place. What seemed like a breaking point ignited an extraordinary movement of solidarity, uniting Israelis in ways never before seen.
Through exclusive interviews with key political figures, including former Prime Ministers Naftali Bennett and Ehud Olmert, Knesset Member Simcha Rothman, former President of the Supreme Court of Israel Dorit Beinisch, former Israeli Ambassador to the United States Michael Oren, and former Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Israel Tzipi Livni and Shlomo Ben Ami, the film takes you inside Israeli society through the perspectives of its most influential voices. Featuring Nobel laureates, Muslim leaders, peace activists, and other notable figures, it provides an unfiltered look at the nation, its people, and the monumental challenges that will shape the lives of millions for generations to come.
Written and directed by MJFF alum Jonathan Jakubowicz (Resistance starring Jesse Eisenberg), a Venezuelan Jew whose personal connection to Israel adds a profound emotional layer to the film with considerable, heartfelt sincerity, bringing to life the complex realities Israelis face daily. His journey into the heart of a divided nation, driven by a desire to prevent Israel's downfall, leads to a message of hope—that even in the darkest of times, unity and resilience can emerge stronger than ever.
By drawing parallels to the rising polarization in democracies worldwide, Soul of a Nation serves as a timely, universal, and hopeful call to action, reminding us that even in moments of deep division, peace and unity are not beyond reach.
This special world premiere event will include the attendance of directors Jonathan Jakubowicz and producer Claudine Jakubowicz, who will introduce the film and participate in a Q&A after the screening.
