Florida Premiere
Hungary’s official submission to the Academy Awards for Best International Feature Film and the country’s highest-grossing film in five years, Semmelweis is a striking historical drama set in Vienna in 1847. The film follows the passionate Jewish Hungarian doctor Ignác Semmelweis as he battles to uncover a cure for a deadly fever ravaging the maternity ward under his care. His groundbreaking approach challenges established medical theories and draws the ire of his superiors, who demand he cease his research. Despite facing professional scorn and a spreading epidemic, Semmelweis remains steadfast in his quest for a cure, even as political and revolutionary tensions simmer outside the hospital walls.
