Matchmaking 2
East Coast Premiere
Step into the world of love, laughter, and a touch of mischief with Israel’s biggest box office hit of the year, Matchmaking 2, the long-awaited sequel to Erez Tadmor’s beloved 2022 romance that took the world by storm. Full of joy, warmth, and the ultimate romantic entanglements, this refreshing and feel-good romantic drama returns to the charming world of Orthodox Jewish dating, telling a heartfelt and humorous tale of tradition, family, and finding love in the most unexpected places.
The spotlight now shines on Baruch (Maor Schwitzer, from the internationally acclaimed show Shtisel and also at the Festival with Air War), an endearing bachelor who’s no longer the fresh-faced groom hopeful, but still holding out for his perfect match. In the pressure cooker of Haredi matchmaking, men and women alike are urged to settle down, and Baruch’s vibrant, tough-love matchmaker, Malki (Irit Kaplan from beloved Israeli show The Beauty Queen of Jerusalem and Academy Award entry Foxtrot), won’t let him off the hook just yet.
While still longing for his soulmate, Baruch finds himself unexpectedly drawn to Shira (a breathtaking Omer Nudelman making her feature film debut), a witty and stunning newcomer who throws him into a dizzying blend of joy and turmoil. After a stranded Sabbath at the airport sparks a deep connection between the two, Baruch faces an uphill journey when Shira's skeptical mother, Malki, decides to meddle, insisting he’s out of her daughter’s league. Baruch is also pushed into meeting Ruth (played by Schwietzer’s real-life wife, Niv Sultan), a charming baker with her own hopeful heart. His choice? A tug-of-war between his devotion to Shira and the allure of a safer match—providing the perfect recipe for hilarious twists, mishaps, and laughter.
Endlessly witty, visually rapturous, and sweetly romantic, Matchmaking 2 is a Romeo and Juliet-like saga (sans the tragedy!) of two young, eligible ultra-Orthodox singles looking for a match. But it isn’t just about finding love, it’s a tender, side-splitting celebration of clashing traditions and big-hearted characters, starring some of Israel’s most dazzling young talents.
