The Forger

Miami Premiere

Based on an extraordinary true story, this utterly gripping WWII drama chronicles a daringly adventurous Jewish graphic artist who survives the war by hiding in plain sight in Berlin and using his talents to help others escape the Nazis. 21-year-old artist Cioma Schönhaus is filled with a zest for life, but as a Jewish person in Berlin in the 1940s, his very existence is threatened by the Nazis. Using inventiveness and charm, as well as the identity of a marine officer he creates for himself, he throws himself into the city’s nightlife and even catches a fragile glimpse of love in seemingly hopeless times. Throughout the day, he forges IDs with just a brush, some ink, and a steady hand – and saves the lives of many others fleeing the Reich. His talent puts him in more and more danger, though, and at some point, his only hope of survival is one last forged ID – with his own name on it.
