Who's Afraid of Jewish Humor

Southeast US Premiere

From Hershel of Ostropol to Lenny Bruce, Ephraim Kishon to Mel Brooks, if there is one thing that unites all Jews, it is their self-deprecating, hilarious sense of humor, or so the myth goes. In this new documentary, award-winning filmmakers Jascha Hannover’s (Hollywood’s Second World War) and Arkadij Kahet’s (Masel Tov Cocktail, MJFF 2021) set out to explore the origins of Jewish humor, tracing the use of irony and satire back to the Bible. Featuring archival footage from around the globe and comedy experts from Europe and Israel, Who’s Afraid of Jewish Humor? celebrates a very long tradition of Jews being seriously funny.
