Visually iridescent and unexpectedly uplifting, America is the hotly anticipated award-winning film from director Ofir Raul Graizer, of The Cakemaker fame. Sincerely felt to the last with vibrant production design reminiscent of the best in Pedro Almodovar’s established oeuvre, the film follows a Chicago-based swimming coach who is unexpectedly forced to return to his native Israel after his father’s death. After contacting an old friend he hasn’t seen in 10 years – as well as meeting his friend's fiancée – an incident soon occurs that creates a seismic shift in each of their lives. A summery melodrama, bright and verdant and attuned to the languor of the Middle East heat, America has a novelistic sprawl and an intimate bent as it carefully unfolds the three well-drawn characters in beautifully captured chapters. Winner of the Best Actress Award at the Jerusalem Film Festival, this sensual cinematic experience is a work of true magic, all built with love and redeemed by love.
