Live at Mister Kelly's
Florida Premiere
An incomparably diverse collection of 20th century entertainment Icons including Barbra Streisand, Richard Pryor, Bette Midler, Lily Tomlin, Herbie Hancock, Diane Ladd, Bob Newhart, Lenny Bruce, Dick Gregory, David Mamet, and Dick Cavett celebrate the legendary Chicago nightclub that was a springboard to fame for them. Owned and operated by Jewish brothers George and Oscar Marienthal, the club was an incubator for positive social change and risk-taking artistry as well as proudly proclaiming inclusive policy at a time in the mid-20th century when Black entertainers weren't always welcome in the downtown and North Side clubs of Chicago. Through interviews with many of the entertainment greats who played the club back in the day and a treasure trove of historic photos, we learn the full and amazing story of the joint one newspaper wag dubbed a “supernova in the local and national nightlife firmament.”
The special under the stars premiere event will be accompanied by a live performance of jazz music. Producer David Marienthal will also be in attendance to introduce the film and participate in a conversation afterward.
