Metamorphosis of a Melody

Directed by Claire Judrin & Fabrice Vacher

France | 70 minutes | 2014

French and Yiddish with English subtitles

A singer/songwriter discovers a 30 year-old cassette of her grandmother singing in Yiddish which she has never heard before. The song, and the yearning in her grandmother’s voice, inspires her on a journey of inspiration and discovery. Through interviews with scholars, performers, and the adult children of Holocaust survivors, Metamorphosis of a Melody explores Yiddish culture, language, and performance. In this poetic meditation on heritage and the creative process, we navigate through the arc of Yiddish usage and the destruction of Yiddish culture in the 20th Century.

Featuring a special performance by the Aventura Turnberry Jewish Choir.
