Marquee Series: Rose

In this warm, feel-good French melodrama, richly flavored with Sephardic and Ashkenazi atmosphere, legendary French actress Françoise Fabian (Luis Bunuel's Belle de Jour and Eric Rohmer's My Night at Maud’s) portrays a widow reawakening to life’s possibilities. The sudden death of her beloved husband leaves Rose distraught and uncertain how to navigate the sunset of her years. Offering little solace, her handcuffing family fails to see beyond her roles of devoted wife, mother and grandmother. But refusing to fade into oblivion, Rose discovers long ignored aspirations of her own, throwing her family’s equilibrium off balance. Drawing heavily from her Tunisian-Jewish roots, actress-screenwriter Aurélie Saada’s directorial debut is a tender reminder that it’s never too late to seek fulfillment.
