Event Details

A heroic Jewish Red Army battalion commander revisits his traumatic past, in this riveting, lavishly produced docudrama based on a true story. The last surviving member of the great partisans, Leonid Berenshtein was a highly decorated anti-Nazi fighter who sabotaged German train transports and pinpointed Hitler’s secret V-2 doomsday missile facility for Soviet bombers. But beyond his valor is a personal story of adversity and sacrifice. Through flashbacks and reenactments, Berenshtein grapples with the disassociation of his wartime experiences, recounting battlefield atrocities, lost love and fateful decisions. What emerges is a moving profile of a modest man who survived against all odds without surrendering his human decency.

The Screening the Holocaust series is presented in collaboration with the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany (Claims Conference), the Holocaust Memorial Miami Beach, the Holocaust Teacher’s Institute, and The University of Miami’s Sue and Leonard Miller Center for Contemporary Judaic Studies.
